The History of South African Metal Documentary explores the root of metal in SA, from the early 70's to 2000. The First Wave of South African Metal Pt.1 - The Early 80's and Before - with Marq Vas (Metalmorphosis), Dean 'Danger' Smith (Ragnarok, Odyssey, 2 Dogs Funking), Brin Addison (Odyssey, 2 Dogs Funking) examines the root of SA Metal in the early 80's. The bands that set the roots of SA Metal include bands such as Black Rose, Lynx, Montreux, Osiris, Pentagon, Razor, Tyrant, Unchained - this first video demo examines the bands and scene at the time in Johannesburg and Pretoria e.g The Irish Club, The Golden Banana and sets a foundation for the upcoming The First Wave of South African Metal
Pt.2 interviewing the forefathers of SA Metal, before moving into The Second Wave of SA Metal - The later 80's (Voice of Destruction, Ragnarok, Odyssey, Aragorn, Stryder, Urban Assault, Scarion etc). The documentary also explores key club owners e.g. Paul Freebody (Purple Turtle, Subjects, Playground), Roland Raker (Alcatraz, Club Image), record labels (e.g. InHouse records) and influentials at the time e.g. Phil Wright, Barney Simon also touching on associated scenes at the time including Heavy Rock, Gothic, Grunge and Punk in South Africa.
